I Like These Films, Do You Like These Films? #007: Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas (Jim Henson, 1977, made for HBO).

As this review notes, the VHS version is the one to get. The DVD apparently has some bizarre cuts, including editing out most of Kermit's top-notch narration. It's time for Criterion to do this masterpiece up right. The Riverbottom Gang is one of Henson's greatest creations. Their Frogtown Hollow talent show performance as The Nightmare is exhilirating rock, complete with the all-too-rare spitting fish dancer.

So tomorrow is the Christmas. Hopefully you will get some new games for your Atari 2600 gaming system.

Ebert's Top 10 list, plus special jury prizes.

Best pick: the inclusion of Owning Mahowny, one of this year's little-seen gems featuring yet another fantastic PSH performance.
